Roots of Ogham

'Roots of Ogham' is a homeware textile collection inspired by the ancient Irish Ogham tree alphabet, where each letter corresponds to a native Irish tree. This collection reflects on a deep heritage where language, landscape, and ancestral knowledge are interwoven. Rooted in hand-weaving, it explores how textiles can carry profound meaning while nurturing a regenerative, sustainable future.

Using natural fibres such as wool, linen, and cotton, I collaborated with my environment by foraging from the Ogham trees locally. I collected oak bark, rowan and birch leaves, hawthorn berries, and alder cones, allowing nature to guide the colour palette and also using undyed fibres for contrast.

Weaving techniques such as extra weft, floats, and double cloth enabled me to create tactile, three-dimensional surfaces that emulate the textures of the trees.

Roots of Ogham honours Ireland’s ancient language through fibre, offering a grounded narrative that is lived, felt, and eventually returned to the earth.
